Wednesday, PetSmart Inc. (PETM) reported third-quarter net income of $35.8 million or $0.28 per share, compared to $29.5 million or $0.23 per share in the same quarter last year.
On average, 17 analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to earn $0.26 per share for the quarter.
Net sales for the quarter increased 12.1% to $1.3 billion from $1.1 billion in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $1.24 billion for the quarter.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the company expects earnings in the range of $0.59-$0.62 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $0.60 per share for the fourth quarter.
For the full year 2008, the company expects earnings in the range of $1.49-$1.52 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $1.48 per share for the full year.
