Friday, defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. (GD:
News ) said its subsidiary General Dynamics Land Systems has won a $647 million contract for 352 Stryker combat vehicles from U.S. Army's TACOM Lifecycle Management Command, the division in charge of mobility, lethality, and survivability of soldiers.
The Sterling Heights, Michigan-based General Dynamics Land Systems will begin deliveries of Stryker vehicles in July 2010. The new contract is a follow up to the Stryker vehicle production program originally awarded to a General Dynamics team in 2000. General Dynamics has delivered 2,988 vehicles and trained 18,438 soldiers in this program until now.
Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled all-wheel-drive armored combat vehicles used by the U.S. Army's combat teams. The Army has seven Stryker Brigade Combat Teams, of which three are deployed in combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stryker Combat Teams have been operating in Iraq since October 2003.
GD closed Friday's regular trading at $66.16, up $0.88 or 1.35%, on a volume of 1.40 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange. In after hours, the stock is gaining $0.84 or 1.27%.
