Disaster Epic "2012" Is Silly But Entertaining
11/16/2009 11:59 AM  ET It can be liberating to watch a mindless action movie when it doesn't try to be something that it's not. "2012" certainly falls into this category - a movie so purposely over-the-top that it's difficult not to admire the pure audacity of it. There is hardly a single aspect of the movie that is plausible, and director Roland Emmerich even mocks its own absurdity throughout.

"A Christmas Carol" Is A Dark Remake Worthy Of The Dickens Classic
Because so many are familiar with the themes and story of "A Christmas Carol," it would have been very easy for a remake to be just a bland retelling of an old tale. But director Robert Zemeckis takes the strands of the classic work by Charles Dickens and spins it in a new direction, filling the screen...
"Paranormal Activity" Delivers Chills With The Best Of Them
Now here is a scary movie. "Paranormal Activity" doesn't count on shadowy figures jumping out from behind corners or a heroine getting chased by a masked killer down foggy pathways. Instead, "Paranormal Activity" builds slowly with the power of psychological suggestion, allowing the suspense to accumulate...

"Star Trek" And Special Edition "Gone With The Wind" Hit Stores
11/17/2009 3:04 PM  ET After a very impressive box office run, the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek" will make its way to both standard DVD and Blu-ray this week and should have a great deal of appeal for both rentals and purchases. Recently, there have been new special edition releases of classics such as "The Wizard of Oz" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," and this week, "Gone With the Wind" gets the special edition treatment.

Pixar's "UP" And "The Ugly Truth" Hit DVD This Week
Animation studio Pixar's latest release "Up" launches on DVD this week, just a few weeks before the holiday shopping rush starts. Romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth" also follows up a substantial box office run and should do equally as well in the home market. An impressive set of popular older titles...
"G.I. Joe" And "The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3" Get Released On DVD
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is the most noteworthy release on standard DVD and Blu-ray this week amidst a series of titles that performed poorly at the box office. The Denzel Washington starring remake "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" also hits the home market this week, as it attempts to reach its intended...

"New Moon" Takes Center Stage, Should Post Big Opening Weekend
As only the eighth release of the year to be distributed to 4,000 or more theaters, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" should be able to ride its wave of popularity into one of the biggest opening weekends of the year. Drama "The Blind Side" also gets a strong release at more than 3,000 theaters as does animated "Planet 51," although both will likely get overshadowed by the phenomenon of "The Twilight Saga."....
