(RTTNews) -
Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch may be turned into a state park, which would all fans of the King of Pop to visit the site.
In an interview with news sources, California Assemblyman Mike Davis said, "Given that we have an economic shortfall . . . I suspect it would be difficult for the State Parks Department to purchase the property alone . . . I am committed to finding out all details possible to make this a good proposal."
Alice Huffman, President of the California branch of the NAACP, is reportedly the one behind the idea of turning the ranch into a park. The idea has been met with resistance from local residents.
"Even if it breaks even, when you're preserving history and you're making it available to the public, there are other values to that are assigned more than the money," Huffman told the Boston Herald. "It's a piece of California history and world history that ought to be preserved."
Colony Capital, who has controlled the rights to the ranch since 2008, has not yet commented on the proposal.
