(RTTNews) -
At least 56 people were killed and dozens injured in a huge bomb blast in a crowded market in Peshawar, capital of Pakistan's militancy-hit North-West Frontier Province, shortly after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton started a three-day visit to the country.
The death toll is expected to rise, as many of the wounded are in critical condition.
This is the worst incident in a series of militant attacks on Pakistani cities, which began with a suicide bombing at the offices of the UN World Food Program in Islamabad on October 5. Infested with frequent and unexpected militant attacks on the military, police and civilian targets, security situation in that country is deteriorating day by day.
Buildings were set on fire after the blast and plumes of smoke were seen drifting over the north-western city.
More than 270 people have been killed by such attacks in recent weeks since the army launched an offensive against Taliban militants in South Waziristan.
