(RTTNews) -
Iran, its response to United Nations-brokered nuclear fuel deal, has asked the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to set up a technical commission to review the same.
This was disclosed Monday by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of a meeting of developing countries in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur .
As part of the international community's efforts to ensure transparency to Iran's claims that it is enriching nuclear-potent uranium for peaceful purposes, IAEA handed a draft proposal advising Iran how to move forward on its uranium enrichment program.
The proposal was finalized after negotiations involving Iran, France, Russia and the United States at the UN nuclear energy agency's headquarters in Vienna. Under the proposal, Russia would sign an agreement with Iran to enrich its uranium further, and Russia would conclude a subcontract with France to turn the material into actual fuel for a medical-purpose nuclear reactor in Tehran under constant monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Mottaki told reporters that on the basis of its reply to IAEA, "it is very much possible to establish a technical commission to review and reconsider all the issues." Iran has some "technical and economic considerations" on the proposal, he added.
Iran's top diplomat also stressed that Iran would "continue with enrichment" of uranium for fuel in its power stations.
