(RTTNews) -  The USS New York, a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship built with steel salvaged from the Twin Towers, was commissioned into service in New York. It will support amphibious, special operations and expeditionary warfare missions.

"Use of this steel symbolizes the spirit and resiliency of the people of New York," the Navy said in a press release.

As is the custom of all Navy ships having a motto, the New York's is: "Never Forget". By tradition, state name is reserved for naming of a battleship or submarine, but the New York has been christened as a tribute to the victims of 9/11 attacks.
