(RTTNews) -
A new Gallup poll released Thursday shows an increasing number of Americans believe the state of health care coverage in the U.S. is either excellent or good.
The poll, which surveyed 1,008 adults November 5 - 8, showed that 38% of Americans feel health care in the U.S. is either good or excellent, up from 26% last year. This represents the highest number since Gallup began asking the question nine years ago.
Gallup said, "It is unclear based on the overall data whether this shift could be due to a greater appreciation for the current system among those who think it is threatened by the proposed changes, or perhaps an anticipation of better days ahead from those who support the changes." Meanwhile, 32% of those surveyed felt that current health care coverage is only fair; while 28% said they feel current health care coverage is poor.
When looked at along party lines, only 22% of Democrats said current health care is good or excellent. The number increased to 48% among independents, while Republicans were the most optimistic, with 55% saying current health care is good or excellent.
In addition, the poll found that 26% of Americans are happy with the current cost of health care, the second-highest number after the 28% recorded in late 2001.
