(RTTNews) -
A new poll has found that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) faces an ever-increasing challenge to retain his seat in the next election, with both possible Republican challengers leading him in the poll.
The poll, conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, suggested that former GOP party official Sue Lowden and real estate developer Danny Tarkanian could both beat Reid if the vote were held today.
In a race against Lowden, Reid trails among Nevada voters 39% to Lowden's 49%. Against Tarkanian, Reid has 43% support compared to Tarkanian's 48%.
To further complicate matters for Reid, the poll also found that only 38% of Nevada voters have a favorable view of him, compared to 50% who hold an unfavorable view of him.
Meanwhile, 31% hold a favorable view of Lowden, while 15% hold an unfavorable view. Tarkanian has a 30% favorable view from Nevada voters, compared to just 11% with an unfavorable view.
In response to the poll, Reid campaign manager Brandon Hall said, "Senator Reid has never put much stock in polls. The Republican candidates in this race are still supporting many of the policies that got us into the mess that Senator Reid is working every day to get us out of."
"As the election draws closer and voters are presented with a choice between moving our economy forward and the status quo, we are confident that Senator Reid's vision of moving forward will prevail," he added.
