(RTTNews) -  American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (AEO: News ) reported that its third-quarter net income was $59.16 million or $0.28 per share, compared to $42.60 million or $0.21 per share in the same quarter last year. Non-GAAP earnings for the quarter were $0.21 per share, compared to non-GAAP earnings of $0.30 per share last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.21 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total sales for the third quarter decreased 1% to $749 million, from $754 million in the year ago quarter. Twenty nine analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $748.32 million for the quarter. Comparable store sales decreased 4% for the third quarter compared to a 7% decline for the same period last year.
Through the first three weeks of November, consolidated comparable store sales declined 5%. The company expects 2009 capital expenditures to be in the range of $120 million to $130 million.
