1997 - Notorious B.I.G. Hits #1 With ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’

Notorious B.I.G. reached the top of the singles chart with "Mo Money Mo Problems" on August 30, 1997.

The rapper had been murdered that March at the age of 24. The single appeared on the posthumous album "Life After Death," his second studio LP, which came out just two weeks after he was killed.

In taking over number one, "Mo Money Mo Problems" took over for a tribute to Biggie - "I'll Be Missing You," from his friend and partner Puff Daddy, featuring the rapper's widow, Faith Evans. Notorious B.I.G. remained at number one for two weeks, before being replaced by Mariah Carey with "Honey."
