Today In Music History - February 25

Late hip-hop star Ol’ Dirty Bast*rd of the Wu-Tang Clan interrupted the Grammy Awards after the group lost to Puff Daddy on February 25, 1998. Though the award for Best Rap Album had already been distributed in a pre-Grammy ceremony, ODB attended the event with his mother.

The rapper hopped on stage at the show as songwriter Shawn Colvin accepted her award for Song of the Year:

“Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!" he told the shocked audience.

When asked by MTV backstage if he thought his actions were appropriate he said “Yes.”
