Michael Jackson was found dead on June 25, 2009. He was 50 years old.
The so-called King of Pop was found in his rented home in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles. Emergency responders attempted to perform CPR on the star while transporting him to the hospital, but he was unresponsive.
The singer’s death caused a worldwide outpouring of grief and consumed the media in the week following his passing. After an inquiry into the cause of death, Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was found to have administered a lethal dose of the surgical sedative propofol and was charged with manslaughter.
At the time of his death, Jackson was preparing for a series of 50 comeback concerts scheduled to take place at the 02 Arena in London. He was honored at a massive public memorial service at Staples Center in Los Angeles on July 7, 2009, which was attended by 25,000 devoted fans.
