Katy Perry hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Teenage Dream” on September 18, 2010. It served as the title track and second single off Katy’s third studio album.

When “Teenage Dream” hit number one, Katy bumped "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem (featuring Rihanna) out of the top spot. She held on for one week at number one before Bruno Mars took over with his hit single “Just The Way You Are.”

While speaking on the track with MTV, Katy admitted she hoped to be a dream woman for today’s teens:

“It kind of exudes this euphoric feeling because everybody remembers what their teenage dreams were — all the girls that were on your poster walls. And I want to continue to be one of those . . .”
