The market spent the session in the red as investors grew cautious ahead of the start of earnings season. Boeing and rival Airbus were in focus in the wake of Farnborough Air Show. Health insurer WellPoint will buy smaller rival Amerigroup in an all-cash deal. In other M&A news, Campbell Soup will acquire Bolthouse Farms. And Spanish and Italian 10-year bond yields rose, while Germany's cost of borrowing declined.
