Late Surge Extends Market Rally

A late round of buying turned what had been a modestly negative day on Wall Street into a day of gains. The Standard & Poor's 500 average posted its 6th straight gain. A weak report on Chinese imports and exports kept the market in check for mch of the day. Meanwhile, the U.S. government cut its projections on this summer's drought-stricken corn crop by 17 percent.
