Stock Market Closes Mixed After Jobs Report

A better than expected report on the U.S. employment picture helped send Wall Street to early gains. But most of the gains evaporated in late trading. The labor Department said the jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent. The Federal Reserve reported a sharp rise in consumer borrowing in August. And crude oil prices fell sharply, off-setting much of Thursday's gain.
