Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars will contribute original music to Sofia Coppola's next film Somewhere.
Mars has worked with Coppola before, including a cameo for the band in Coppola's film Marie Antoinette. The two are also a couple and have a child together.
Somewhere is scheduled for a 2010 release and stars Benicio Del Toro, Stephen Dorff, Elle Fanning, and Robert Schwartzman. Schwartzman is frontman for the band Rooney and brother to actor Jason Schwartzman. He is also cousins with Coppola.
According to movie/music blog The Playlist, Somewhere is about a "bad-boy actor who is wasting away in the celebrity-clad Chateau Marmont when his estranged 11 year-old daughter shows up for an unexpected visit."
Phoenix's current album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is their fourth studio album and was released earlier this year.
