Kinks frontman Ray Davies was shot during a robbery attempt in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 5, 2004. Davies was in New Orleans on a seasonal holiday when he and a female companion were mugged on the border of the French Quarter and the Faubourg Marigny neighborhoods.

Davies was shot in the leg while pursuing the assailant, who had made off with the woman’s purse. The robbery took place just blocks from the famed Bourbon Street, which was reportedly packed with people at the time who were there to attend that year’s Sugar Bowl football game.

Davies was treated at a local hospital and was released shortly thereafter without any major injuries. One suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting and another was sought by New Orleans police. Since the shooting, Davies has reported pain in his leg, which suffered subsequent infections.
