The number of people in higher education has been continuing to grow in recent years. It is forecast that by 2025, the number of students around the globe enrolled in higher education will rise to 262 million.

QS Quacquarelli Symonds has released their 2018 list of the best places in the world for university students to study. The fifth edition of the ranking is based on over 50,000 student responses.

Published annually, the QS Best Student Cities index showcases the best urban destinations in the world for international students, based on a diverse range of indicators grouped into five key categories.

The ratings are based on factors such as the top universities in a city, affordability, student experience, job prospects, cultural diversity and quality of life. It also attempts to quantify some of the attractions and disadvantages of these cities.

Germany and Australia cemented their growing reputation as international study destinations by boasting two each of the world’s top ten student cities.

Meanwhile, there are no U.S. cities in the global top-ten list, as they experienced significantly lowered ranks in terms of student mix, affordability and employer activity indicators.

This is despite the U.S. boasting of some of the best educational facilities in the world.
