Peter Cetera hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his track “Glory of Love” on August 2, 1986. The track was originally released as part of Cetera’s second solo effort “Solitude/Solitaire,” which also included his hit single “The Next Time I Fall” featuring Amy Grant.

The song rose to hit status partly due to its use as the theme song for the film “The Karate Kid Part II.” The music video from for the track features scenes taken from the film in which the main character (played by Ralph Macchio) is seen in a martial arts dojo.

Coming from only Cetera’s second album apart from his longtime band Chicago, the track helped establish the vocalist as a solo artist.

“Glory of Love” upended one of the biggest hits of the 1980s when it took number one, knocking "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel out of the top spot. The song held on at the top for one week before it was succeeded by Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach.”
