Teddy Pendergrass Funeral Details

Funeral arrangements have been announced for renowned soul singer Teddy Pendergrass, who passed away on Wednesday following a lengthy fight with colon cancer. He was 59.

According to Pendergrass' publicist, a public viewing will be held on Friday, January 22, at 10 AM Eastern Time at the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia. The funeral will also take place there on Saturday at 10 AM Eastern Time, followed by internment at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

The Pendergrass family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Joan and Teddy Pendergrass Memorial, P.O. Box 382, Gladwyne, PA 19035.

Pendergrass passed away Wednesday at Bryn Mawr Hospital in his hometown of Philadelphia, eight months after what his son, Teddy Pendergrass II, reportedly termed "rough" surgery.

"To all his fans who loved his music, thank you. He will live on through his music," he said.

The Grammy Award-winning R&B/soul singer rose to fame as the lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s and then launched into a successful solo career.
