Roadrunner Records has confirmed that they will release the soundtrack EP for the new God of War III video game on March 2.
The collection, titled God of War: Blood & Metal, features original tracks written specifically for the game by top metal acts, including Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Opeth, Trivium and Taking Dawn.
The God of War III: Ultimate Edition will sell for $99.99 and comes with a code to download the EP tracks.
"Music has always been an important part of video games and can help bring titles to life," game director Stig Asmussen said in a statement. "Our goal is to make God of War III a special release in all areas and this just another way to offer fans and newcomers a worthwhile experience."
According to Trivium guitarist Matt Heafy, writing a video game track was a new experience for the band, but the song ultimately brought out the best in them.
"When we were initially asked to write an original song for the game, we were slightly perplexed since we've never actually written a track for something other than a TRIVIUM record," he said. "But we answered the call as we are fans of the game."
"Writing the song was a fun experience," Heafy added. "This new song captures a certain energy we've been trying to harness on record as well, as it will show all our fans worldwide where TRIVIUM is heading musically in the future."
