Austria's merchandise trade deficit increased in 2011 from last year, data from Statistics Austria showed Friday.
The trade deficit increased to EUR 8.59 billion in 2011 from EUR 4.28 billion in 2010. Exports of goods recorded a growth of 11.7 percent and imports grew by 15 percent.
Shipments to the European Union increased 10.4 percent, while imports from the region rose 13.2 percent.
