Coinstar Inc. (CSTR) announced after the close Thursday that it now expects to report first quarter core earnings from continuing operations of $1.36 to $1.40 per share and between $4.40 and $4.80 for the full year 2012. The consensus estimates are for EPS of $0.90 and $4.09.
Coinstar gapped open dramatically higher Friday, but gave back some gains in the first hour of trade. The stock settled into a range for the remainder of the session and closed up by 4.47 at $65.78, with volume at over a 2-month high. Coinstar rose past the upper end of a one-month range and set a new high for the year.
