Guitarist Mike Rutherford, formerly of Genesis, says his career is no longer focused on the old Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel-led group, but on a revamped version of his 80s project, Mike & the Mechanics.
Mike & the Mechanics reformed in 2009, releasing an album, The Road, in 2011. Gone is former singer Paul Carrack, and on board are new vocalists Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar.
Speaking with Genesis-News.com, Rutherford said he was "disappointed" with sales of that album but not dismayed:
"I was disappointed last time, it didn't really connect . . . But a lot of acts work all the time, the Mechanics haven't done very much for a long time. Record sales are just dropping all the time for older acts."
He added that, while he is currently writing new material, the Mechanics have no set plans beyond their current tour.
