John Legend stopped by Stockard Middle School in Dallas, Texas earlier this week in conjunction with the Teach for America Program. While on hand, Legend tried to convince students of the importance of getting a good education.
"We believe it's so important that every kid in the country gets a great education," Legend said.
"I believe in the American dream, the idea that no matter where you're from, you should have the opportunity to succeed here and be whoever you want to be," he added.
Legend is on the national board of Teach for America, an organization which recruits college students to teach in disadvantaged communities.
Officials from J.C. Penney Co. were also at the school, where they announced a $5,000 donation to Stockard's music program.
