Robin Williams Reportedly Had Hallucinations Before Suicide

Robin Williams is said to have suffered hallucinations associated with the onset of Parkinson's disease before his suicide in August. Williams' wife said that the actor was afflicted with Lewy body dementia following his diagnosis.

TMZ cited statements made by Williams' wife to medical examiners. She adds that Robin complained about the symptoms prior to his suicide.

Lewy body dementia, a side effect of dementia, often includes delusions of objects, people or animals, with which the subject will try to engage. The disorder disrupts cognitive operations by depositing the odd protein on the brain.

The National Institutes of Health defines the disorder, stating that, "The central features of DLB include progressive cognitive decline, 'fluctuations' in alertness and attention, visual hallucinations, and parkinsonian motor symptoms, such as slowness of movement, difficulty walking, or rigidity. People may also suffer from depression."
