Skywest Airlines July Traffic Declines - Update

Wednesday, Australian and South East Asia regional airline Skywest Airlines Ltd. (SKYW.L) reported a decrease in traffic for the month of July.

For the month, traffic decreased 9.94% to 28.39 million revenue passenger kilometres, or RPKs, from 31.52 million RPKs in the prior-year month. Capacity for the month was 47.4 million available seat kilometres, or ASKs, down 10.04% from 52.6 million ASKs in the comparable month last year.

Skywest Airlines' load factor, excluding charter passengers, increased 0.07% to 59.95% from 59.88% in the same month last year. The passenger numbers for the month decreased by 10.82% to 32 thousand from 36 thousand last year.

The company noted that number of charter services for the month increased by 30.16% to 246 from the year-ago month. Average aircraft in fleet for the month remained same at 13.

Jeff Chatfield, chairman, said, "We are pleased to have stabilized the load factors and have a view that the Australian domestic air travel market is now stabilizing and tending towards a return to growth."

Further, the company said that Skywest and its engineers have entered into an enterprise bargaining program aimed at securing long term predictability for the company and its employees.

SKYW is currently trading at 7.50 pence per share, down 3.23%, on the London Stock Exchange.
