Green Day have taken home the Moonman for Best Rock Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Their video for "21 Guns," from the record 21st Century Breakdown, was directed by Marc Webb.

Other nominees included Paramore, Coldplay, Fall Out Boy and Kings of Leon.

Green Day made it clear early on that they were excited about the event, which was dedicated to the memory of Michael Jackson.

In an interview with VH1, Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong commented on his own relationship to Jackson's music, "I remember being in the fifth grade when Thriller came out, and Off the Wall is a great record. . . We've been playing a song off it for our pre-show every night."

The band has played "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" through the house speakers at every show of their 21st Century Breakdown tour since Jackson's passing.
