In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKa, BRKb) provided a snapshot of its portfolio of U.S. equities at the end of September 30, 2009. Billionaire Warren Buffett's U.S. equities portfolio at the end of September quarter was $56.55 billion, when compared to $48.95 billion held at June 30, 2009.

The filing shows that Buffett, whose stock picks are closely watched by investors, has bought stakes in Nestle SA (NSRGY.PK,NSTR.L), Republic Services Inc. (RSG), Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), and The Travelers Companies (TRV) and nearly doubled his stake in Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT).

Buffett has started accumulating stake in Exxon Mobil, and held 1.27 million shares at the end of September. Buffett's company also disclosed in a separate filing that it held 0.85 million shares of Exxon Mobil at the end of June.

As of September, 33.63 million shares of Wal-Mart Stores, valued at $1.65 billion, were held by Berkshire Hathaway, compared to 19.9 million shares held at the end of June.

(BNI), it did not own, in a $100 per share cash and stock transaction, held 1.93 million shares of Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC) and 9.5 million shares of Union Pacific Corp. (UNP) as of September.
