U.S. companies slashed bonuses for their chief executives by 21.9% in 2009, pay data tracker Equilar has said.
Median CEO bonus payments stood at $689,000 in 2009, Equilar said, down from $882,000 in 2008.
Companies in the financial and technology industries took the biggest bonus payout hits, while bonuses in the services and healthcare sectors were up.
Some 6.1% of chief executives did not receive a bonus at all in 2009, the firm added.
