Studio heads at FOX will reportedly bring "24" to a close after the completion of its current season. After eight seasons, the show's ratings have decreased, while production costs have skyrocketed.
According to Boston.com, the show's future has been up in the air since this last summer.
"It's going to come down to a business decision," Fox chief Kevin Reilly said. "It's not an inexpensive show on the network books and we also want to finish strong. This is not a show we want to prop up."
Once the secret-agent drama goes off the air, it could quite possibly move to the big screen. Canoe.ca speculates that "24" fans will get to see Kiefer Sutherland take his Jack Bauer character to Europe.
Since premiering in 2001, "24" has won 18 Emmys, including Best Actor for Kiefer Sutherland in 2006 and Best Supporting Actress for Cherry Jones in 2009.
Variety reports that a decision on whether or not to end the show will be made next week.
