A strong earthquake, measuring 6.6 on the Richter Scale, hit northeastern Japan Sunday, said Japan Meterological agency.
The quake occurred at 05.08 local time at a depth of 40 kms from the sea level off Fukushima-ken Oki. No casualties have been reported and no tsunami warning has been issued.
It was reported earlier that a quake measuring 7.0 hit Indonesia's Maluku islands earlier Sunday. On Saturday, a 6.5-magnitude quake shook Manokwari in West Papua province.
