Estonia's average monthly gross wages and salaries increased in the second quarter after easing in the first three months of 2010, data from Statistics Estonia showed Monday. The average monthly gross wages and salaries grew 1.2% annually, while the average hourly gross wages and salaries dropped 1.7% in the second quarter.

The average monthly gross wages and salaries were EEK 12,869 and the hourly gross wages and salaries were EEK 75.81 in the second quarter.

The increase in the gross wages and salaries was also influenced by the decrease in the number of persons on holiday without pay, the statistical office said. At the same time, the hourly gross wages and salaries were influenced by the fact that compared to the second quarter of the previous year, this year there was one working day more and the average number of hours worked per employee was bigger.

In the second quarter, the real wages decreased 1.9%. As at the end of June, the number of employees was 7.3% smaller than in 2009 at the same time.
