Beyoncé And Jay-Z Cannot Trademark Blue Ivy

Jay-Z and Beyoncé have failed in their attempt to patent the name of their daughter, Blue Ivy. The pair petitioned for a trademark on January 26.

The application was filed after the couple learned the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had already turned down two applications to use the name. One was a fashion designer who applied four days after the girl was born, another was for use on a line of fragrances.

However, it was discovered that a wedding planner, Veronica Alexander, already owned the trademark for her business, and she successfully sought to retain her rights thereto.

"I definitely needed to protect what it is I've been living on," Alexander told the Boston Globe. "Now it's time to create the partnerships and business avenues I'm planning on doing, period."
