Asus has announced that it has pushed back U.S. shipments of its new ultrabook the Taichi. The unit has been listed for sale on several U.S.-based sites including Amazon, but now the firm says customers will have to wait until December for shipments.

The Taichi was initially slated to begin shipping to the U.S. later this month to follow the release of the new Windows 8 operating system. Thus far there is no official word from Asus as to the cause of the delay.

The Taichi offers both an external touchpad screen for tablet-style use and also an internal screen for standard notebook-style use. It comes in two models—the Intel Core i5-based 21 DH51 and the Core i7-based 21 DH71. The former is priced at $1,299 and the latter at $1,599.
