Apple, who has been suing its rivals left, right and center over incidents of patent infringement, has been found guilty of copyright infringement in China, China Daily reported.
The Cupertino based electronics giant was accused of illegally publishing material by popular Chinese writers.
The Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court, which found Apple to be liable for the sale of unlicensed works by eight local writers, ordered it to stop publishing the materials. The court also ordered the company to pay an amount of 1.03 million yuan (165,908 USD) in compensation . The list of authors involved in the case includes Murong Xuecun, Li Chengpeng and He Ma.
The writings were published within an application on the iTunes store. Apple was held responsible for the issue, as as it had failed to check the content designed by the application developers who might have used the writings illegally.
However, this is bad news for app developers around the world, as app stores like iTunes and Google's Play Store will impose tougher restrictions on incoming applications and thereby discourage upcoming developers.
