Costco Wholesale Dec. Comps. Rise 9% - Quick Facts

Retailer Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST) said its December comparable sales for the total company went up 9%. Monthly net sales totaled $11.21 billion, a twelve percent growth from $10.05 billion last year.

According to the company, this year's five-week period contained an extra day versus the prior year, due to the timing of the New Year's holiday, positively impacting total and comparable sales by around 2%.

The company said inflation in gasoline prices, as well as stronger foreign currencies, positively impacted comparable sales for both periods. Excluding these effects, 5-week total company's comparable sales climbed 8%.
