19 Killed In Egypt Rail Accident

Nineteen people were killed and more than 100 injured in a railroad accident near the Egyptian capital Cairo shortly after midnight on Monday.

The ill-fated military train was carrying Army recruits from Upper Egypt to an Army camp in Cairo when it derailed in the Badrashin area of Giza, just south of the capital, reports said.

The accident occurs just two months after a train slammed into a school bus, killing 50 children that ultimately led to the resignation of Transport Minister and the head of the railway authority.

Egypt's roads and railways have a poor safety record, which accounts for many accidents.
