Romania 2012 Current Account Deficit Narrows

Romania's current account deficit declined from last year in 2012, data released by the National Bank of Romania showed Tuesday.

The current account deficit dropped to EUR5.04 billion at the end of 2012 from EUR5.94 billion in the previous year.

The shortfall in the goods and services account decreased to EUR6.74 billion lasa year from EUR7.07 billion in the preceding year. The balance in the income account was a deficit of EUR1.67 billion, lower than the EUR2.21 billion shortfall seen a year earlier.

The surplus in the current transfers account edged up to EUR3.36 billion from EUR3.34 billion at the end of 2011, data showed.
