Turkey Inflation Rises To 5-Month High

Turkey's consumer price inflation accelerated in March, while economists expected inflation to remain unchanged, latest data showed Wednesday.

Inflation as per the consumer price index increased to 7.29 percent in March from 7.03 percent in February. Economists had forecast inflation to stay unchanged.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 8.1 percent annually, and clothing and footwear prices moved up 6.44 percent. There was a 9.84 percent annual growth in housing costs and utility prices, and a 4.03 percent gain in transportation costs.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index moved up 0.66 percent in March, faster than the 0.41 percent gain economists had forecast.

Separately, the agency said Turkey's producer price inflation rose to 2.3 percent in March from 1.84 percent in February. In January, the rate of growth was 1.88 percent. Compared to February, the producer price index advanced 0.81 percent in March.
