Lithuania Inflation Slows For Third Month, Exports Rise 2.5%

Lithuania's annual inflation weakened for the third successive month in March, data released by Statistics Lithuania showed Tuesday.

Inflation as per the consumer price index dropped to 1.5 percent in March from 2.2 percent in February. In January and December, the inflation rates were 2.6 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices advanced 1.7 percent annually, and clothing and footwear prices moved up 3.3 percent. There was a 1.3 percent gain in housing costs and utility prices during the month, and a 0.7 percent decrease in transportation costs.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index edged up 0.3 percent in March, after staying unchanged in the previous month, data showed.

Separately, the agency said Lithuania's exports increased 2.5 percent month-on-month to LTL6.7 billion in February. Compared to February 2012, the value of shipments climbed 16.6 percent during the month.

Meanwhile, imports decreased 4.5 percent sequentially to LTL7.1 billion. Year-on-year, imports increased by 3.8 percent. The net trade resulted in a deficit of LTL0.4 billion.
