The total number of cases of human infection with influenza A (H7N9) virus in China as of April 9 2013 was 28, including nine deaths, according to China's official Xinhua news agency.

H7N9 is a bird flu virus, and this is for the first time that this subtype of the influenza virus has been found in people. No cases of H7N9 outside of China have been reported and there is no evidence of ongoing human-to-human transmission.
