Philippines' merchandise exports decreased for the second successive month in February, and at a significantly faster rate than in the previous month, data released by the National Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

Export of goods plunged 15.6 percent year-on-year to $3.74 billion in February, notably faster than the 2.7 percent fall seen in January.

The downfall was driven mainly by negative growth in electronic products, machinery and transport equipment, special transactions, and articles of apparel and clothing accessories, the agency said.

Exports of electronic goods, the country's top export commodity, fell 36.5 percent annually in February, but increased by 1.2 percent compared to January.

Compared to January, total shipments decreased by 6.7 percent, reversing the previous month's 1 percent increase, data showed.
