The Tennessee state legislature has signed the Animal Cruelty and Abuse bill, which makes it illegal to shoot video on factory farms in order to expose animal cruelty, according to PETA. The bill, however, is not yet law, as it has not been signed by the state's governor.
Many Tennesseans are upset with the bill, including country superstar Carrie Underwood, who says that the so-call Ag-Gag bill will inhibit investigations into animal rights abuses.
"Shame on TN lawmakers for passing the Ag Gag bill. If Gov. Bill Haslam signs this, he needs to expect me at his front door. Who's with me?" Underwood tweeted earlier this week.
Underwood is a longtime animal rights activist who has two rescue dogs of her own. She also helped found the Checotah Animal, Town and School Foundation (C.A.T.S.), which supports animal shelters in her Oklahoma hometown.
