After Sony announced a few weeks ago that its upcoming PlayStation 4 will be available during the holiday season this year, Microsoft has now invited the media to an event on May 21st, during which it will unveil its next version of its Xbox console and media box.

"On May 21, we'll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment," the company said on its official blog.

The next version of the console, which has been code-named Durango, has been heavily rumored to include a large focus on more than just video games. Microsoft plans to make it a platform that will hold your video and TV content as well.

Currently, The Xbox 360 is a market-leading console, boasting of a user base of 76 million gamers worldwide. For months, gaming blogs have been afire with speculation about what features the upcoming console might offer. However, Microsoft, who is trying to preserve the element of surprise, has not divulged any information related to it.

A few market analysts believe that Microsoft too will launch its console later this year to compete with its biggest rival in the gaming scene, Sony.
