Guantanamo Lawyer Dead Of Apparent Suicide

A lawyer representing detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba was found dead of an apparent suicide, RT is reporting. American Andy P. Hart, 38, was found dead last week of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hart had represented Mohammed Rahim al-Afghani, a "high-value" terrorist detainee along with many others. Al-Afghani was believed by authorities to have been Osama bin Laden's translator.

Hart was one of several attorneys who signed a letter to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to urge him to take action to end a growing hunger strike at the prison.

Within the last week, about 40 U.S. Navy medics arrived at the prison camp to work on the hunger strike, which now includes 100 of the 160 detainees at the prison.

Hart was from Toledo, Ohio, and left a suicide note and USB disk drive with his case files, Truthout.org is reporting.

Hart is survived by his 11-year-old daughter.
