Poland April Inflation Exceeds Forecast

Poland's consumer price inflation exceeded economists' expectations in April, latest data showed Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 0.8 percent on an annual basis in April, the Central Statistical Office said. The growth was slightly faster than 0.7 percent economists had forecast.

Costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages advanced 1.7 percent from a year earlier, while prices of clothing and footwear decreased by 5.1 percent. Housing costs and energy prices were higher by 1.1 percent than in April 201. Meanwhile, there was a 2.2 percent decrease in transportation expenses during the month.

Month-on-month, consumer prices moved up 0.4 percent in April. Economists had forecast the index to record a 0.3 percent monthly growth.

During the four months ended April, the consumer price index grew 1.2 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier, data showed.
