Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner had just a general comment on Tuesday for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee before invoking her rights under the fifth amendment.

"I have done nothing wrong, I did not break any laws," she said. "I did not violate IRS rules or regulations, and I'm proud of the work I've done."

Lerner is the official who disclosed that the tax agency had targeted conservative political groups for greater scrutiny.

The committee was hoping to question her not only about the targeting but also about the revelation that the targeting came to light because of a planted question at a recent tax conference.

Lerner refused to elaborate on any related comments or activities and refusing to answer questions from committee members.
